If you haven't already, please vote by November 8th and remember my father (and other men and women) of the "Greatest Generation" who fought for our freedom during World War II. Recently, I have been studying this war and it boils down to one key point: Nazi Germany, led by Adolph Hitler, the Kingdom of Italy, led by Benito Mussolini, and the Empire of Japan, led by Michinomiya Hirohito wanted to rule the entire world.
In the long run, Hitler would have ruled the world by himself. The dictator, Hitler, would have continued his Holocaust. Here is Mark Grimsley's idea of his plan:
“It goes without saying that the Nazis intended to eradicate the Jews and other “sub-humans” in every region they controlled. But they also intended to eliminate Christianity and to adopt a state policy of polygamy so that the male survivors of wars expected to kill four million German soldiers would be able to impregnate enough German women to forestall a drop in population” (Grimsley).
So, in a nutshell, Hitler would have turned on his partners, killed all the Jewish people and people he deemed “sub-human”, and adopted (forced) polygamy in order to turn the world’s population all into one race- a white, German, Aryan race.
Now, looking back, that seems a bit far-fetched, but obviously, Hitler was insane and a man with tremendous power.
People who lived during this time period, 1939-1944, remember this threat vividly and took it seriously.
People who lived during this time period were frightened.
My father and mother lived during this time.
My father, Private Nelson L. Coder, was not a fighter, and far from a killer, but he did those things for you and for me so we could live in a free society. So did many, many other young men and women.
Dad did it because he believed in America and he was afraid of what Hitler threatened to do to the world.
Dad would be devastated to know that today the democracy he fought for is being threatened once again.
He risked his life and his sanity to provide us with freedom.
I wonder if people today truly understand the sacrifices made so we could live in a society free of insane dictators.
Dad had to live with the guilt and trauma of war his entire life; he never said much about it.
The things he saw and did were horrific and no human being should ever have to experience them.
My father was a private in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II and lived to tell little about it.
I am speaking out for him today.
