Dollar and a Quarter Tree: Enough is Enough

Frequently, I stop into the Dollar Tree store to pick up gift bags, cards, soap, and the basics I need around the house. While walking out to my car, I glanced at my receipt and it stated that each item cost $1.25, not $1.00.

What?

I turned around and started walking back towards the store to ask the manager about the discrepancy. He was just about to lock the front door and through the crack he said,

“Sorry, we close at 2:00 p.m. now”. And then he pointed to a huge sign on the front door that said:

“As of January 2022,

all items in Dollar Tree Store will be $1.25.

- The Management”

So many questions.

Will they change the name to Dollar and a Quarter Tree?

Will they start closing at noon in the near future?

Will it be Two Dollar Tree eventually?

I never could understand how this establishment made a profit selling everything for one lonely dollar.

But life is about to change and Dollar Tree is just the start of things.

The average price of a gallon of gas is now $3.82 in Johnson County, Kansas.

The price of groceries has been outrageous for several weeks.

I am not sure how things will ever get back on track, but that is what I said after 911, the housing crisis in 2008, the Iraq war, the Syrian Refugee Crisis, the war in Afghanistan, and now the war in Ukraine.

I was playing bridge at the Lenexa Senior Center the other day and a woman in her 80s said, "I have had enough war in my lifetime."

I agree with her.

I think we all have had enough.
