Finally, Spring is Here: Hallelujah!

Spring and Easter always bring wonderful, happy memories to my mind.

Mother always made my sister and me new outfits for Easter Sunday and bought us hats and gloves to match. Easter usually fell around my dad and his twin sister’s birthday, so not only did we have large family gatherings to celebrate Easter but we always celebrated their birthdays as well.

The First United Methodist Church in Independence provided wonderful opportunities for me as a child and St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Lenexa did the same for my children.

Both churches surrounded me with love and support like a second family.

I attended Sunday School on a regular basis and then later, Disciple Bible Study, and many church functions throughout my life which enriched me and filled me with positivity.

In high school, each summer, I attended Institute - a religious retreat - for a week at Baker University, and in the spring of my junior year in high school, I went on the UN Tour with a busload of Methodist teenagers from the Eastern Conference. We visited New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. For a little girl from Southeast Kansas, it was a life-changing event.

One of my favorite classes in college was a religion class called Sects and Cults in America. I earned an A + and I enjoyed and looked forward to every minute of that class. I have always been interested in and open to understanding different religions. (I guess that is why I taught at a Catholic School for twenty-two years and found it so interesting.)

Lately, I feel comfortable being a student of religion again.

A “floating” Christian, if you will.

Some people might think this is spiritually dangerous, but - right now - this method seems to assist me in maintaining a healthy personal relationship with God and Jesus.

Christ Has Risen Again and Finally,

Spring is Here!

Hallelujah!

One song I love this time of year is the Halleluja Chorus! Enjoy!
