Photography: An Old-New Hobby

Since I retired, I started up and new old hobby: photography. I have enjoyed taking pictures since I participated in a Photography 101 class at the William Allen White School of Journalism in 1980.

But, like most of my other hobbies, photography went to the wayside during my childbearing and rearing years.

Most recently, I have found a group of photographers on Twitter who share photos - retweets, and follow each other. It has been amazingly fun for me as I have made friends from all over the world.

Est@Est02142479 is from France,

Dejan Tosetti@detojan is from Zurich, Switzerland,

Christophe B @BugsOfArt who recently made this post.

My new friends will ask for nature photos, animal photos, photos with lines, photos that are blue, moody, etc.

I scroll through my photos and try to find one that matches their request. It is really fun! I take photos all of the time and now I am looking at them through a different lens.

It is wonderful to get feedback and likes. I never imagined in my wildest dreams that this would be a hobby, but I am enjoying it immensely.

Some of the people I am following are truly professional photographers and they are giving me feedback which is neat.

Here are some of the photos that I have shared lately. If you are on Twitter follow me @pmccarthy722

Thanks!

The first picture is from a trip to Colorado in the fall of 2021.

Pictures 2, 3, and 4 were taken in Independence, Kansas at the home of William Inge.

The fifth picture is a lizard I photo captured on a trip to Florida in 2019.

The last picture was taken last summer - 2021 - at Starlight Theater in Kansas City, MO.

Paula, I have always love the picture of the runner at the Kansas Relays. You have always been the one in our family to document events with pictures and videos. Thank you for doing this. I get caught in the moments and forget to take pictures. If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t have as many pictures to remember our granddaughters first 19 months! Thanks again Sister!
